Here we are going to promote server 2012 r2 as a domain controller on previous versions of Microsoft windows server like 2003, 2008 we install active directory by running DCPROMO command see this post on active directory installation on server 2008, In server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 we have to install active directory domain service for installing active directory on windows server 2012 r2 for doing this follow steps given below.
Open server manager click on add roles and features to add role
Click Next
Leave default option selected click next
See your computer name ip address then click next
Select active directory domain services then click on add features
Click Next
Click next and then on install
After installation complete close it
We have only installed active directory domain services role yet for installing active directory on windows server 2012 r2 click on flag at right side on top, here you can see a optionPromote this server to a domain controller click on it
At first screen select add a new forest option then type your domain name click next
Select forest and domain functional level for this post I selected Windows Server 2012 R2
Type password then click next
Click next
Verify your NetBios name Click next
Specify the path for database, log files, sysvol folder for default click next
Review all setting click next
After prerequisites check click next
When installation complete you got a message “This server is successfully configured as a domain controller” click on close
Installing Active Directory on Windows Server 2012 R2 is complete now you can use active directory for making user, group policy’s etc.
